The fictional backdrop of Grand Theft Auto III is not only the home of that game's protagonist (known as Claude) but is also the birthplace of Tommy Vercetti himself.
Tommy led a different life than most in Liberty City and joined one of the crime families in the city, the Forelli crime family, becoming an associate in the family.
Tommy Could Be Dead
In a subway station in Bohan, there is graffiti on the wall that references several PS2 GTA characters, such as San Andreas CJ, and Tommy is one such character.

Tommy's name is mentioned in a sentence towards the bottom of the graffiti. The sentence reads "remember Tommy u r still my hero." The sentence seems to imply that Tommy actually dead.
